Five Fine Things, No. 17
Boxer Shorts, Brow Gel, Bread Bags, Bath Towels and My New Lights!
Hello and happy summer! For some reason it was not until this week that I I’ve felt summer is in true swing. It’s usually around 4th of July that it set’s in for me but we had my sister and her three kids visiting this past weekend on their way up to our family lake house, so that set things off early! We will join them up in Lake Placid for a full week this starting Friday.

Today Fewer Finer launched our limited edition Precious Stone Charms! I loved making these and shooting them. I was inspired by the colors of New York in the summertime. I asked one of my best friends who I’ve known for fifteen years to model for us - isn’t she gorgeous? The charms, of course are too!

And, last week we launched our Family Rings. I filmed a video sharing more about them (I much prefer propping my phone at my computer and talking to the camera on my own, but it was nice to try something new here!). I love these as a place to collect names, monograms, and details for people and places you love!
Tonight I’m hosting a dinner party for the first time in a few months and am looking forward to setting a nice table and eating al fresco with some friends. I also have the guy who hangs everything for us coming over, which means more of our house projects are finally getting ticked off! Also, this hat I shared about last week arrived from Amazon and I love it!
And now, for Five Fine Things from this week to share with you:
I was recently talking with friends about the towels we’ve used in our bathroom for years, and I thought I should share them here. As we’re refreshing our guest bathroom, I repurchased the exact same ones because I haven’t found anything I love more.
I’m partial to white towels. They always feel the freshest to me, and I love that you can keep them looking bright with a little OxiClean when needed, and mine do after more years than I can count - maybe that means it’s time to refresh these too, but I honestly see no need.
If you’re a towel snob like me and like something soft that actually dries you off, you’ll appreciate these. They’re incredibly absorbent while still feeling plush. We love the oversized “bath sheet” size.
They’re not cheap but they really are worth it! As my mom always says, “buy it right or buy it twice!” You can buy them on this site for $90 less than Bloomingdales!
Finally, I’ve found the best brow gel! I am someone who needs a good brow gel to give my eyebrows some sense of identity. They’ve never been particularly full, so brushing them up and keeping them in place makes all the difference.
For years I was loyal to the Sania’s brow gel, but recently I noticed it was drying a little too hard. Instead of disappearing into my brows, it left a visible gel look that I don’t like. Even with a brand-new tube, I was having the same issue.
So, I went down the rabbit hole of trying replacements. I ordered several highly recommended options, but none of them I loved - either the gel was too sticky, to visible, or the brush was no good. Then I came across this one—either through an ad or an influencer, I honestly can’t remember—and it has turned out to be the best brow gel I’ve ever used.
It’s been a long time since I’ve used a tinted formula because I usually prefer filling in my brows with a pencil and finishing with a clear gel. But the tint is so subtle that it works really well. It holds my brows beautifully, never dries crunchy, and looks very natural. I wear the Medium shade.
One of my favorite things to have at home is a fresh loaf of bread, but if we don’t finish it within the first day or two, I’m usually slicing it up and moving the rest to the freezer.
These beeswax-lined bread bags are my new solution. They help keep bread fresh longer than the plastic freezer bags I usually use. I love that they are so cute and come in a few different striped patters.
I also think these would make such a thoughtful hostess gift this summer for anyone who is hosting you. Pair one with a great loaf of bread and a favorite jam, or good olive oil and you have the perfect gift!
Lighting Brand that Was Worth The Wait!

So happy with each of these! I wrote about Huey Light Shop a while back when I had just placed an order for several pieces. The lead time was long, and then, as is always the case with home projects, we had to wait until we could finally coordinate with our electrician. This weekend everything was installed, and I can happily report that it was absolutely worth the wait.
We added a chandelier to our closet, small accent lights in our bathroom, a table lamp for our bedroom, and one of their beautiful plaster wall pieces between our bathroom mirrors.
Lighting is one of those things that completely changes how a home feels, but it can also get incredibly expensive. I’ve been so impressed with the quality and design of everything from Huey, especially considering the price point.
My only complaint is that I wish they would expand their collection because I already have a running list of places in our house I’d love to update next.
J.Crew Boxers (Now 40% off!)
I originally bought one pair of these boxer shorts (that are now 40% off!) to wear around the house on hot summer nights, and loved them so much that I now own three pairs.
There’s nothing groundbreaking about them, but I’ve ordered and returned enough boxer shorts over the past few years to know that finding the right pair isn’t as easy for me. I want them to be flattering, washable (no silk!), and easy.
I love the cut, the comfortable elastic waistband, and the lightweight cotton fabric. They do run quite big—I bought my first pair in a Small, but the next two I ordered in an XS, and I much prefer the fit, which is still comfortably roomy.
I have one pair in the light pink, which is a little sheer, but the darker colors I can wear out of the house. I think they’ll be perfect thrown over a swimsuit on the dock this summer.
Until next time,
Madison
